What We Do

We work with secondary schools, arranging and accompanying visits to Oxford Crown Court and HMP Huntercombe. We make sure that these experiences are as informative, relaxed and non-confrontational as possible. Teachers choose the students they feel will benefit the most from the visits. They may be interested in a legal or law enforcement career, or they may be at risk of making wrong decisions, and these visits highlight where it can lead if bad choices are made.

Citizenship is a part of the school curriculum in England and Wales, but is rarely taught. Getting Court is a very effective way of teaching children about the crucial elements of the justice system.

A recent development is taking a prisoner with security clearance and on day release from HMP Huntercombe into schools so that we can reach a much larger student audience, and this is proving very popular and effective.

To date we have collaborated with approximately three quarters of the secondary schools in the County. We also have a strong relationship with Meadowbrook, the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), and with ACE Training which provides skilled training in construction work for those who have left school early. With exposure to the justice system, students understand the very real consequences of crime, and appreciate that the justice system is there to protect them, and their families and neighbours.
